From dragon dancers to red envelopes, Lunar New Year is filled with symbolic customs to usher in good luck, fortune, and health for more than one billion people across the Asian diaspora. Some of the most popular traditions include starting fresh with new clothes, as well as wearing the color red, which is believed to bring luck and prosperity

Sunday marked the beginning of the Year of the Rabbit (or the Year of the Cat for the Vietnamese) and the start of a 15-day celebration focused on family homecomings, resulting in the biggest travel period in China as celebrants rush to go home in what's been called the largest annual human migration. To honor the festivities, Canada–based athleisure brand Lululemon launched its Lunar New Year 2023 collection—the fifth year that it has created specially-themed products to honor the biggest Asian holiday of the year.

Available online and in select stores across the US and Canada, the limited-edition collection includes running, training, and yoga essentials, as well as casual apparel and accessories. And with the introduction of the brand’s own shoes last year, this also marks the first time Lululemon has Lunar New Year footwear.

The collection is rooted in two major design traits—products that feature a fierce shade of red to attract those auspicious new year vibes, as well as those honoring this year’s Zodiac sign of the rabbit, whether it’s with hare outlines hidden in its designs, or going full-on bunny with cottontail-like fuzzy bags and hats with rabbits on them.

Lululemon’s Lunar New Year items have been selling out quickly since the collection went on sale earlier this month, but may still be available in certain stores. (I spotted a display full of rare hare items that are sold out online at the New York City’s Fifth Avenue store Saturday night, including the rabbit belt bag, one of Lululemon's most popular bags of late.)

Here, we take a look at some of our favorite items in the Lunar New Year capsule. If you like any, definitely hop to it, since the one-time collection won’t be replenished once the stock sells out.

New Year Wunder Puff

Cozy up on your winter travels in this water-repellent down vest with a relaxed fit and cinchable hem. The zippered pockets have a hidden phone pocket within to ensure your essentials stay safe in transit, and the removable hood allows you to customize to any conditions that may come your way. After all that, the eye-catching bunny pattern in shades of pink and white is practically a bonus.

New Year Chargefeel mid workout shoe

What better motivation to push you to your fullest potential than by looking down at this pair of made-for-women shoes and seeing the subtle rabbit pattern on your feet? Slow and steady may win some races, but when it comes to running and training—which is what this neutral shoe with a heel drop of 9 millimeters is made for—speed is everything.

New Year quilted light insulation vest

Level up your travel wardrobe with this men’s vest that adds a dose of warmth to your look, whether it’s worn on chilly plane rides or early morning hikes to see the sun rise. Stuffed with PrimaLoft insulation, the material is both water- and wind-resistant. In addition to its outer zipped pockets, there’s one on the inside to stash essential travel documents.

New Year hooded Define jacket

Channel that good fortune wherever in the world you go with a silky-smooth zipped jacket made of the brand’s trademark Nulu fabric, designed to feel like practically nothing. This slim-fit cut and hip length makes it the perfect outer layer for morning runs or an extra inner layer for snowy days.

New Year Align bra

One popular belief is that wearing red underwear can help bring good luck any time of year (I remember my cousins making sure they had theirs during school exams), and these three special edition patterns of Lululemon’s Align Bra can do the trick. Whether it’s a solid dark red, a multi-hued rabbit design, or a more subtle pattern called Lunar Phase, this reversible Nulu fabric bra just might be the key to good fortune.

New Year Pace Breaker linerless short

Men can take pride in their stride with these light-weight polyester athletic shorts, available in a bright red hue or in a more subtle black rabbit all-over print. The four-way stretch material moves right along with any activity and the zippered pocket ensures nothing gets left behind.

New Year Feeling Ready pouch

Perfectly sized at 8.7" x 3.9" x 5.9", this water-repellent pouch is ideal for carrying items while running around at home, or helping you stay organized on your travels; use it as a toiletry bag, medication pouch, or to store cords and chargers.

New Year The Mat

There’s something immediately calming about the shade of this milky merlot yoga mat. The 5mm thick padding is reversible, so you can choose from a cushioned side for relaxing practices or a grippy texture when you get your sweat on.
